SHOP AND CAFE...
When the museum was located at the former Tinsley Tram Sheds and for the first two years in unit 9 at Aldwarke, the shop was rather small and was loosely based on a station bookstall and ticket office. W hen the decision was taken in 2009 to expand into unit 8 it was possible to create a much larger shop which allowed visitors to browse the items on sale rather than having to view them through what was essentially a glass shop window. This has proved to be a much more satisfactory situation for both museum staff and visitors alike.
The shop mostly contains items of a transport nature such as models, tickets, uniforms and books. There are also many low price items such as key rings, badges and pocket money priced items for younger visitors.
There is also a very large collection of bric-a-brac in the room between the shop exit and the museum exhibition area. Here you can rummage through hundreds of items including books, CDs, DVDs, and lots of household items. Most of the stock is very reasonably priced and you can pick up some great bargains!!
As well as creating a much improved shop, the expansion into unit 8 also provided the opportunity to set up a cafe area. The cafe has seating for around 40 visitors and is open on event days and by prior arrangement for pre booked group visits. The cafe serves tea and coffee plus a selection of crisps, biscuits and soft drinks etc. On rally day sandwiches are also available. All these items are at a very reasonable price.
This room is also available for hire at £25 for two hours and £10 per hour thereafter. For more information on hiring e-mail info@sytm.co.uk
