Why not hire a bus?

On June 1st, 2008, South Yorkshire Heritage Buses hire service started. If you require transport for a number of guests to a wedding, a party or any other such event, why not ask us to quote you for a hire of our vintage double deck bus. It has a capacity of 62 seated passengers, 34 upstairs and 28 downstairs. We are flexible to your needs, but must stress that we will not undertake any hires that involve late night arrangements.

Doncaster 188...

Our bus is a  Leyland Titan PD2/40, new in 1963 to Doncaster Corporation Transport, with registration number 388 KDT. Its fleet number is 188. Instead of having the bus chassis matched with a brand new body, Doncaster made the interesting decision to transfer some redundant trolleybus bodies, suitably modified, onto the new chassis. So, 188 ended up with a modified 1955 C.H.Roe body inherited from trolleybus 395, which was originally registered EWT 480.
188 has a Leyland 0600 engine, coupled to a standard Leyland ‘half & half’ gearbox. 1&2 gears ‘crash’, 3&4 gears synchromesh. Running on diesel fuel, it consumes a gallon (around 5 litres) for every 12 miles covered.
After service in Doncaster, 188 passed to a private preservation group until disbanding in the late 1990’s. It then passed to First South Yorkshire, who in turn donated it to us in 2007.

Sheffield 687...

New in 1953/4 as one of a huge number of buses bought for the Middlewood to Ecclesall tram route replacement, RWB 87, a Leyland Titan PD2/12 with an MCW all metal framed body, left Sheffield for a new life with Mellors of Goxhill, in 1967.

In the mid 1980s, it was 'found' again by a group of Sheffield bus enthusiasts. 687 had not been used for further service, instead it had been kept undercover as a store shed. It returned to Sheffield in 1984, and stood unrestored for a number of years.

687 is now reaching the end of an extensive refurbishment, and will soon be ready to join 388 KDT. We know there will be a lot of interest to hire this bus from the Sheffield area.
